Federal forecasters say a potentially record-strength El Niño, dubbed Super or Godzilla El Niño, is developing and could last through early 2027. The warming of the eastern Pacific shifts global weather, raising flood risks in the southern U.S., drying the north, and possibly pushing 49 million more people into food insecurity worldwide. Experts caution impacts vary by region and that climate change will intensify weather on top of El Niño's effects.
