Rare heavy rainfall is flooding the Four Corners states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, damaging more than 100 homes in Hurricane, Utah, and triggering rescues, evacuations, and emergency declarations. Officials in San Juan County, N.M., and Farmington describe flooding not seen in generations, and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis activated the National Guard in 12 counties. Meteorologists say the remnants of Hurricane Trudy brought record rainfall totals, with more storms forecast through Sunday. A climate scientist links the storms' moisture to a strong El Nino and a marine heat wave he attributes largely to human-caused climate change.
