These 10 candidates for governor made history in the 2026 election

Ten gubernatorial races made history in the 2026 election. Keisha Lance Bottoms won Georgia as the first Black woman elected governor of any state, Deb Haaland became the first Native American woman governor, and first-ever women or Black governors were elected in California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Ohio. Wins split between parties, including Trump-backed Republican Byron Donalds in Florida and Democrat Amy Acton's upset over Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio.
