Jobs: BLS reported 162,000 jobs added in August 2026. The forecast was 56,000. That's close to triple. June and July were revised up too. Combined, those two months added 55,000 more jobs than first reported. Labor force participation rose 0.2 point, to 61.6%.
Inflation: 3.4% is the rate for the twelve months ending July 2026. That's the most recent BLS figure available. August's CPI comes out September 11.
Oil: WTI has averaged about $83/barrel in 2026 so far. In June 2022, it was near $115.
Gas: The national average was about $4.08/gallon in late August 2026. That matches the post. But AAA and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics both flagged this as the most expensive August on record. Prices were up nearly 30% from a year earlier.
